PokerStars Abandones Washington due to Supreme Court Ruling

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

PokerStars will no longer be servicing the Washington State online poker market.  PokerStars announced earlier today that the online poker site will no longer provide real money poker games to residents of Washington State.

This is a humongous blow to the online poker market in the United States. Up until now the poker site went ahead and offered real money online gambling to Washington Residents, and paid affilaites for traffic brought to them from Washington. That’s all changed now.

Before it was believed that the government in the United States could not legally and constitutionally regulate the use of the Internet to play poker, and that the government at the very least could not discriminate against online poker providers in favor of local land based operations.

What changed? The Washington Supreme Court ruled in favor the states ban on online gambling in favor of the censorship of their residents activities. Washingtonians, it’s time to watch porn and rated R movies, before someone says it’s immoral and you no longer have the option. In fact, have a cigarette, drink some caffeine, and hit on a Milf while you  have some of your freedom.

When you’re done with all that. Either find a new way to accomodate Washington gamblers, or remove marketing for that state.

PokerStars LAPT season 3 comes to a close

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

The PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour started off as a three stop tournament series in 2008, and has been able to steadily grow into the five stop tournament series it is today.  Although the tour’s attendance has remained fairly constant –with most stops falling in between 250-350 players– the tour has been able to increase the overall buy-in of the tournaments making for larger overall prize-pools.

In Season 1 of the LAPT, each of the three stops had a set buy-in of $2,500; fast-forward to Season 3 where three stops still feature a $2,500 buy-in, while another stop has a $3,700 buy-in, and the Grand Final of the PokerStars LAPT buy-in tops-off at $4,700.

The LAPT has also launched a number of poker players into the spotlight including Season 1 winner Valdemar Kwaysser, Season 2 winner Ryan Fee, and Season 3 of the LAPT saw the first repeat champion, Jose “Nacho” Barbero, who won the Lima and Punta Del Este stops on Season 3.

The big winner on Season 3 of the LAPT was Martin Sansour, the PokerStars qualifier who recently won the LAPT Grand Final in Rosario, Argentina after besting 253 other poker players. The win was worth $322,280; one of the largest prizes awarded in LAPT history.

Perhaps the most interesting result of the year happened at the stop in Playa Conchal where a remarkable five of the final table players were Canadians! Not to mention the Netherlands Patrick De Koster. This was the first LAPT tournament where the final table was not dominated by players from South and Central America.

With its million dollar plus prize-pools, and a growing international player base it looks as if the PokerStars LAPT will be a major tournament circuit for years to come.

Optimizing Poker Content For SEO

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

On-page SEO is just as important as the rest of the on-site SEO. The last article covered on-site SEO as a whole for keyword search, title, keywords, description, and internal linking. This article will cover everything you need to know to optimize your page to benefit your SEO campaign for your poker website.

Header Tags

Title and subtitles are more important than just telling the reader what the next paragraph is about. They are a tool to optimize your page for the search engines. You must use the header tags H1 and H2 wisely as they are the most important header tags for optimizing your page for the search engines.

  • H1 – This header tag must only be used once. This header tag tells the search engines the title of the article and what the article is about. It should have your main keyword for the article in the title. Always remember to do keyword research before making the title of your article.
  • H2 – This header tag should be used for subtitles. This let the search engines know what the section of the article is about. When using this header you should have your keywords in the subtitles or at least part of your keyword in them. You can use as many subtitles as you want but don’t go crazy with them. Make sure they fit in the article.

Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Writing an article you maybe so focus on getting your keywords in the article that you over use the keywords. You want to avoid this because search engines may notice this as keyword stuffing and this can make your article unreadable to the normal human being. You should use your keywords over 2% of the article. However, if you keyword applies to so many parts of your article then keep it under 4% of the article.

Internal Linking

In your article you should be able to find at least one keyword or key phrase that you are trying to rank for another page. This also includes the homepage of your website. Many people forget to link back to their own homepage within articles. 1 link per 300 words would be a great way to build backlinks to other pages on your website without putting way to many links in one article. The way to insert the links is one in the beginning, one in the middle, and one in the end. (Not including your affiliate links)

Linking out to other pages (including the homepage) allows you to keep the search engines’ bots on your website a lot longer. As long as you have links in your articles pointing to other pages on your website the bot will keep going through the pages until there are no more links to follow (which they should always be links to follow) or the search engines’ bot come across the same link.

The benefits of using these on-page tips to let the search engines know what your content is about and keeping the search engines’ bots on your website longer is getting all of the content on your poker website index faster and rank for your targeted keywords.

James Bord wins £830k at World Series of Poker Europe

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

With a dark-horse Brit winning the title, and the London crowd cheering and singing him on the whole way, I cannot wait to see the televised final table of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event!

When the final card was dealt, and James Bord was officially declared the 2010 WSOPE Champion the Casino at the Empire went absolutely nuts, and it took several minutes to quiet them down enough for the new WSOPE Champ to say a few words: “I’ve got all the boys to say thank you to, you are unbelievable. And I’d like to say a big thank you to Sam Trickett. It’s just such a relief to get one!”

While he was not a complete rookie, this is Bord’s first big tournament score, his previous best finish was a 6th place in the 2010 WSOP $1,500 2-7 No Limit Lowball tournament. His biggest win before taking down the WSOPE Main Event was a runner-up finish in a $500 Deep-Stacks tournament in 2008 where he pocketed $29,269.

Here is a complete rundown of each player’s finish and prize-money from the final table:

1.    James Bord  — £830,401
2.    Fabrizio Baldassari  — £513,049
3.    Ronald Lee  — £376,829

6.    Daniel Steinberg   — £156,530
7.    Dan Fleyshman   — £118,643

Roland De Wolfe headlines WSOPE final table

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

With 22 players left in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event it appeared to be shaping up as one of the toughest final tables in poker history. Unfortunately for some of the game’s most recognizable players the bust-outs came fast and furious during Day 4, and when the dust settled the only big name player remaining at the final table of the WSOPE Main Event in London, England was Roland de Wolfe.

Among the casualties that hit the rail before the final 9 players were determined were, 2-time WSOP bracelet winner Greg “FTB” Mueller was the first to hit the rail on Day 4 ending up in 22nd place, Finnish poker pro Jani Sointula in 21st place, French poker pro Thomas Bichon in 20th place, poker superstar Phil Ivey in 19th place, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom was the next to go in 16th place, Followed by Hoyt Corkins in 15th place, Barney Boatman in 13th place, Arnaud Mattern in 12th place, and Andrew Pantling in 11th place.

In addition to De Wolfe, the remaining 9 players include Victory Poker CEO Dan Flesyshman, who could capture the title for the ‘poker industry’ and follow in the footsteps of Barry Shulman, last year’s winner. Here is a look at the complete final table breakdown:

1.    Seat 9: Dan Fleyshman (1,946,000)
2.    Seat 8: Ronald Lee (1,899,000)
3.    Seat 6: Danny Steinberg (1,520,000)

7.    Seat 4: Fabrizio Baldassari (697,000)

Onsite Seo for Poker Affiliates

Monday, September 27th, 2010

On-site SEO is the base of your off site SEO campaign. Without a solid on-site SEO plan you’re off site SEO will be a waste of time if you’re trying to rank #1. The base of your on-site SEO is your website title, keywords, and description for every page then comes internal linking.

Keyword Research

Before you start adding titles, keywords, and descriptions you want to make sure you are targeting the right keywords and make sure people are searching for those keywords. Best recommended keyword tool for beginners is Google keyword tool.

How To Use Google Keyword Tool?

First you enter your keywords. (One keyword or phrase per line) Set the country, language and do your search. Once the results show up you scroll down and on your left you will need to uncheck board and click on exact. Now above that you want to uncheck all the keywords unrelated to your search. This will give you the results you are looking for.

Once you have the keywords for each page, you should add the titles, keywords, and descriptions to each of your pages. If you do not know how to do this look at the code below which you should add in your header.

<title>Your Page Title</title>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”your,keywords,go,here”>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your description go here.”>
<meta name=”author” content=”Your site name”>

The author meta tag is recommended so search engines know which site they found the content first. Just in case someone try to copy your content. You will be shocked how often it happens. A lot of affiliates don’t know or don’t care that copying someone else’s content is stealing!

Internal Linking

Internal linking is backlink building on your website for other pages on your website. It does a few things for your website. Give visitors a window to another page on your website, better chance to convert them by pointing them to the right pages, and letting search engines know what keywords your pages should rank for. With those reasons being said get the full details below.

  1. Ranking – Using author text for your links vs. using “click here” lets search engines know what keyword search engines should rank your page. This also allows you to direct your visitors to the right pages because they are related.
  2. Call to action – Using author text makes you more creative on how you apply your call to actions and come up with better converting call to actions than just saying something like “click here for 100% match up to $600 deposit bonus”

How Many Internal Links Per Page?

This is very debatable depending on who you talk with you will get a lot of different answers. The most important thing is you have a minimum of one link per page pointing to another page on your website. As far as the maximum number of links pointing to other pages per page should be based on the page.

If it’s a page that needs to give the visitor options then add all the options. However, if the page is strategy article, news article, or something along those lines then only add links that apply and do not just to focus links in the article by adding keywords that don’t fit when reading it.

Phil Ivey and Isildur1 flourish in WSOPE Main Event

Monday, September 27th, 2010

What started on Thursday and Friday with 346 of the world’s top poker players registering for the £10,000 buy-in Championship of the World Series of Poker Europe is now down to just 22 players, with just two days left to play.

Two players who have been near the top of the leader-board throughout the tournament are two of the most well-known poker players in the history of poker: Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom.

It would be hard to find even a few people who do not recognize the name of Phil Ivey, who currently sits in 6th place on the leader-board with 657,000 chips. On the other hand, you would have an even harder time finding people who do know the man sitting one spot ahead of Ivey on the leader-board with 705,000 chips: Viktor Blom. But, if you were to mention Blom’s online screen-name at Full Tilt Poker –Blom is widely regarded to be Isildur1—the number of people who recognize the name would increase dramatically.

Poker fans are salivating at the thought of an Isildur1 and Phil Ivey heads-up battle for the World Series of Poker Europe Championship, but there are still 20 other players who would like to ruin that dream scenario!

Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day 4 of the WSOPE:

1.    Ronald Lee –  947,000
2.    David Peters –  829,000
3.    Andrew Pantling — 821,000
4.    Daniel Steinberg — 768,000
5.    Viktor Blom  — 705,000
6.    Phil Ivey  — 657,000
7.    Hoyt Corkins  — 566,000
8.    Nicolas Levi  — 515,000
9.    Bojan Gledovic  — 500,000
10.    Arnaud Mattern –  468,000

2010 World Series of Poker Europe main Event underway

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Day 1a of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe has concluded and the year of the poker pro seems to still be in full swing thus far as a number of the best poker players in the world survived their Day 1 flight, and will return to the Casino of the Empire poker tables on Saturday for the start of Day 2.

Antics were the talk of the day, and who better to cause a stir than the Poker Brat, Phil Hellmuth.  Hellmuth has brought his over-the-top entrances from the World Series of Poker across the pond to London, England and the World Series of Poker Europe. This time the self-proclaimed greatest No limit Holdem player of all-time showed up nice and late with a marching band playing Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’, and of course with the usual assortment of sexy women in tow.

Unfortunately Phil’s poker face must have been readable, since he hit the rail early on Day 1a. Joining Hellmuth on the rail on Day 1a were Allen Kessler, Vanessa Selbst, Andy Bloch, Chad Brown, Scott Seiver and James Dempsey. Two players seeking some WSOP history were also left high-and-dry Jonathan Duhamel and Joseph Cheong, both of whom made the final table of the WSOP Main Event, but failed to make it through Day 1 of the WSOPE.

Some of the big names that will return to the tables on Saturday include Bruno Fittousi, Huck Seed, Allen Cunningham, Jason Mercier, Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka, Nick Schulman, Eugene Katchalov, Leo Margets, Ross and Barney Boatman, and David ‘Bakes’ Baker.

Online gambling company Betfair to go Public.

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Betfair has announced their intention to go public after 12 years in the online sportsbetting industry. The bookmaker originally opened more than a decade ago with a fresh idea.

Just like holdem sites, Betfair wanted to give sportsbettors an opportunity to bet on sports, without betting against the house.

Betfair matches up sportsbetters with other betters in what’s called a betting exchange.

The site was originally launched by Pro gambler Andrew Black and Mr. Wray, a JP Morgan Trader. Today, those two industry pioneers own 24% of Betfair.

Since their induction into the online sportsbetting scene, the companies remained at the forefront of the industry, offering cutting edge options in punting, such as in-game-play betting, and house-free bets.

Representatives of Betfair say that they’re not going public so much to raise money, as no new shares will be issued at this time. The companies 14 major investors have each pledged to sell 10% of their own interest in the company.

In addition to a sportsbook and betting exchange, Betfair offers online poker, and an online casino.

Gus Hansen looks for 1st WSOP Bracelet today

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

2010 has been a good year for established poker pros that were missing a certain piece of gold jewelry from around their arm, which is a very good sign for Gus Hansen, who finds himself in the Final 4 of the £10,000 Heads-Up No Limit Holdem High-Roller Event at the World Series of Poker Europe. Hansen’s first opponent on Day 3 of the tournament will be Andrew Feldman, who survived a marathon-match with Daniel Negreanu to clinch a spot in the semi-finals. Should he beat Feldman, Hansen will face off against the winner of the Ram Vaswani/Jim Collopy match for the bracelet and £288,409 that will be awarded to the winner of the tournament.

Hansen is among a shrinking group of well-established poker pros who haven’t won a WSOP bracelet, but if the 2010 WSOP and WSOPE have been any indication I would put my money on Gus today! Gavin Smith was the first of the “Best to never win a bracelet” crowd to erase his name from the dubious list when he won the $2,500 Mixed Holdem Event at the World Series of Poker this summer. Next up was Phil Laak, who won his first bracelet at the 2010 WSOPE in Event #1, a £2,500 6-Max No Limit Holdem tournament.
