It was another short day in San Remo as the EPT San Remo Main Event went from 24 players down to the final table of eight players. Chris McClung was unable to continue his hot-streak that saw him end both Day and Day 4 of the tournament as the chip-leader, which allowed Daniel Neilson to take over the top spot, after being in the top 5 on both Day 3 and Day 4.
Joining Neilson at the final table will be some tough competitors in the form of Jan Bendik, Barny Boatman, and former EPT winner Kevin MacPhee, who will enter the final table as the short-stack, but could be very dangerous if he can manage to chip-up early on.
In addition to McClung, Alessio Isaia, Johnny Lodden, Lex Veldhuis, and 2011 WSOPE Champion Elio Fox all hit the rail on Wednesday.
Here is how the final eight players will enter Thursday’s final table for Season 8 of the EPT tour’s San Remo Main Event:
- Daniel Neilson — 6,700,000
- Dimitar Danchev — 4,435,000
- Jan Bendik — 3,980,000
- Andrey Pateychuk — 3,105,000
- Barny Boatman — 2,490,000
- Yorane Kerignard — 2,145,000
- Rocco Palumbo — 1,160,000
- Kevin MacPhee — 1,115,000
There is a lot on the line on Thursday as the 8th place finisher will receive roughly €63,000 while the winner of the tournament will pocket a hefty €800,000.

One of the biggest poker tournaments of the year will be entering its penultimate day on Wednesday, with a mere 24 players still in contention for the €800,000 first-place prize-money. Leading the final three tables is the Day 3 chip leader, Chris McClung. The Canadian poker pro McClung once again dominated the action, and for the second straight day ended the day with a sizable chip-lead.
In what was another short day at the EPT San Remo, it took the 64 players who sat down to begin the day about seven hours to reach the final three tables, at which point play was halted for the night.
McClung will face some stiff competition on Day 5 of the 2011 EPT San Remo Main Event considering some of the other notable players that also survived Day 4’s action: EPT and WPT Champion Alessio Isaia, PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden, Kevin MacPhee, Barny Boatman, PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis, 2011 WSOPE Main Event Champion Elio Fox, and Mike “Timex” McDonald.
Hitting the rail on Tuesday were 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, David Back, John Duthie, and Tyler Bonkowski.
Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day of the EPT San Remo:
- Chris McClung – 3,148,000
- Daniel Neilson – 2,011,000
- Mustapha Kanit – 1,761,000
- Alessio Isaia – 1,524,000
- Kevin MacPhee – 1,441,000
- Barny Boatman – 1,257,000
- Johnny Lodden – 1,227,000
- Jan Bendik – 1,211,000
- Andrey Pateychuk – 1,200,000
- Dimitar Danchev – 1,196,000
Day 5 will see the remaining players play-down to the final table of eight players.

Over the past few years you would have a hard time finding a more successful online poker player than Richard Lyndaker, known to the online world by his PokerStars screen-name “Nutsinho”. But 2011 has been a whole different ballgame for the online phenom, and after a devastating weekend at the virtual tables, Lyndaker is down nearly $900k on the year.
The run has been so bad that Lyndaker has been threatening to quit online poker (his presence on the live tournament trail has increased dramatically over the last couple years) over the past couple weeks, first posting the following message on his Twitter account a few weeks back: “Continuing to run terrible every single day this year. Just never ends, probably quitting online poker after the next two months,”
And after his recent downswing he appears to be giving the world of online poker only another month: “Impossible bad downswing immediately follows heater AGAIN. November will be the last month of “nutsinho” playing on PokerStars. Sad times…”
Lyndaker’s downswing and subsequent tilt/depression/frustration is eerily similar to Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies’ horrid 2010 –and like Lyndaker, Sahamies was very vocal about his struggles– at the online poker tables. Sahamies tried everything from switching from Full Tilt Poker to PokerStars and quitting poker for a spell, before he worked his way through it, and is once again one of the online poker world’s top winners. Here is hoping that Lyndaker can follow a similar path.

With the two Day 1 flights now in the books, the World Series of Poker’s decision to move the WSOP Europe from its four-year home in London to Cannes can no longer be argued, and has to be considered one of the most successful decisions in tournament poker history.
In all, 593 players registered over the two starting days, easily surpassing the old attendance record of 362 entrants, set back in 2007 and matched in 2008 –although it should be noted that even though the buy-in remained at 10,000, the buy-in this year is considerably lower due to the Euro being valued far less than the British Pound.
Even though the field size nearly doubled, the big names are still performing well, in what has historically been a tournament where few but the very top players enter: Amongst the chip leaders entering Day 2 on Monday are Chris Moorman, Darren Elias, Leo Boxell, Emil Patel, Johnny Chan, Ben Lamb, Carlos Mortensen, Will Failla, Chad Brown, Tommy Vedes, Alexander Kostritsyn, Robert Mizrachi, McLean Karr, Victor Ramdin and Tony G.
Even with the French government taking a further 4% off the top of the prize-pool, the players are still battling for nearly €5.7 million, with the winner looking at a €1.4 million payday and a WSOP bracelet to boot. A total of 64 players will make the money in the 2011 WSOP Europe Main Event, with the top eight players all receiving six-figure paydays, and the 64th place finisher walking away with €20k.

Gus Hansen (or possibly the very remote chance that it’s someone pretending to be Gus Hansen, as I haven’t verified the owner of the blog, but it was tweeted at his @RealGusHansen Twitter account) may have lost his gig as a member of Team Full Tilt Poker, but that hasn’t stopped “The Great Dane” from pursuing other interests and projects, as evidenced by the blog I referenced above, which can be found at Hansen’s new website: GusHansen.me.
The site looks to be mainly a blog at the moment –which Hansen states is his first attempt at such an undertaking. Hansen’s first post foretold that he will be “writing about poker, backgammon, sex, religion and everything else that comes to mind – Hope you like it,”
In a post on Tuesday, Hansen unleashed his first blog post where his opinions came to light. Hansen questions how the US could possibly be so hypocritical as to outlaw online poker while at the same time allowing horse racing and other forms of gambling. Hansen further went on to chastise conservatives –calling out Fox news in particular—opining, “Needless to say it does not make any sense at all, but then again who could expect any intelligent outcome in a country where NO-ONE gets elected into office without confessing a sincere belief in Millenia old fairytales… Hopefully one day rational thought will prevail and people will stop from imposing their fucked up ideas upon others.”

Another prominent member of Team Full Tilt Poker has decided to break their silence regarding their role with the ailing online poker room. This time it was PokerTube.com that got the exclusive interview, talking to Patrik Antonius while the poker superstar was in Cannes for the World Series of Poker Europe tournament series.
Antonius was emphatic in stating that he had nothing to do with the management of Full Tilt Poker, and was strictly under a “marketing contract” with the site. He went on to state that if the site does become insolvent he will be one of the biggest losers due to the amount of money still locked-up in his Full Tilt Poker account –according to Antonius the amount is so large that even the amount he has been paid since becoming a Full Tilt Poker Pro wouldn’t cover it!
According to Antonius, he knows less than most of the poker media that have been following the story, telling PokerTube.com: “I feel like when I read the news, they know much more about it than I do. Nobody talks to me, so I am always the last person to know… I did call Howard in the beginning of the summer, and I was supposed to meet him. But I was too busy, and I don’t even know if he was in Las Vegas. This was before they lost their license, though… Everyone in the poker industry should care about this. It’s hurting the reputation of poker a lot, and this makes me very sad,”
Antonius has now joined other Team Full Tilt Poker Pros Tom Dwan and Mike Matusow as vocal critics of their former employer.

Phi Hellmuth had to do some last-minute juggling of his hand-picked team that will be representing America as they go up against Team Europe in the upcoming Caesars Cup at the 2011 World Series of Poker Europe. The inaugural Caesars Cup was held at the 2009 WSOP Europe, where Annette Obrestad’s Team Europe easily dispatched the Daniel Negreanu led Team America, and now two years later the Americans (which includes Canada) are looking for revenge.
While Negreanu will once again represent Team America, this time around it’s Phil Hellmuth who was selected as the captain of Team America, with his European counterpart being Bertrand “ElkY” Grosspellier. Each captain is allowed to select four additional players to round out their team of five, and the two couldn’t have taken more opposite approaches in their selections.
Hellmuth initially went with experience, selecting Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, and Huck Seed for his roster, but both Doyle and Seed were late scratches this week, which left Hellmuth scrambling to find not one, but two replacements. Fortunately for the Poker Brat, there are plenty of top American players over in Cannes for the WSOP Europe, and Hellmuth eventually settled on two of the games top young talents in Jason Mercier and Ben Lamb.
Here is a look at the updated rosters of the two teams that will compete in the Caesars Cup:
Team America: Phil Hellmuth (captain), Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, Jason Mercier, and Ben Lamb
Team Europe: Bertrand Grosspellier (captain), Dario Minieri, Gus Hansen, Max Lykov, and Jake Cody

Current and former Doyles Room poker players found a very intriguing E-Mail in their inboxes on Tuesday night. The E-Mail was sent to inform players that Doyles Room would be undergoing a software upgrade early Wednesday morning, and when the site comes back online at 7AM it will no longer be Doyles Room, but will be Americas CardRoom!!!
Apparently Americas CardRoom has purchased Doyles Room, and all of its assets, and will be rebranding the site as Americas CardRoom. The site will remain on the Yatahay Network, utilize the same software (with a different look), and players will retain all of their bonuses, promotions, and affiliate deals according to the E-Mail.
Here is a look at the pertinent parts of the E-Mail received by Doyles Room customers:
Something exciting is happening at DoylesRoom, and as a result, our software will require a scheduled downtime from 3:00am ET until 7:00am ET tomorrow Wednesday October 11th. When we’re back online, you’ll notice a transformation that’s going to change the poker landscape for the better.
DoylesRoom is becoming Americas CardRoom and the future is going to be amazing. Americas CardRoom and DoylesRoom are proud to announce the acquisition of DoylesRoom along with the rights to the player and affiliate database, the DoylesRoom software, staff, and player liability. But first, let’s talk about what won’t change:
- October’s Big Promos—everything remains intact
- Great Software—it’s exactly the same as before, except for some new colors and a brand new logo
- Your Login Credentials—sign in to the new software just as you would to DoylesRoom
- Your Account Assets—Information like hand histories, player notes, FPPs, bonuses, and more will remain intact
- Your Account Balance—it will remain 100% intact
- The Dedicated Staff—all the day-to-day people behind the scenes will remain on board
What’s New
- A $65,000 Points Race—that’s up from this month’s $50k
