Full Tilt Poker Changes Rakeback Calculation Method

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

In the blink of an eye Full Tilt Poker has gone from being one of the most lucrative rooms for rakeback poker players, to being one of the least!

Full Tilt Poker has announced a change in the way they calculate their rakeback. Previously, Full Tilt Poker used the dealt method of calculation. That means that every player dealt into every hand of poker received a credit for the rake paid during the hand. Spin around those Rush Poker tables for about 8 hours a day, and you’ll realize what a big chunk of change that is.

Full Tilt will now be using not the just the contributed method, which splits credit for rake among players that contributed to the pot (including the big and small blind, anyone that called preflop etc.) but they’ll be taking it a step further!

Full Tilt intends to do an entire 180, and now pay using the weighted-contributed calculation method. That means player will only get credit for what they put into the pot.

If the player folds on the turn, they won’t be seeing credit for action on that street or on the river!

This is going to make a major change to the way your earnings are calculated for Full Tilt Poker players. For instance, all those grinders, multi-tabling tight games all day, their earnings just took a nose dive.

Poker Affiliates Battle Over Mac Poker Trademark

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Who do you suppose owns the term Mac Poker? If  you can trademark that term, can you trademark smaller terms? Let’s say, Ubuntu poker? Or bigger terms? Live Poker, Online Poker, Internet Poker?

There’s a heated debate going on right now in the Poker Affiliate Listings Forums that involves the term Mac Poker and one affiliates attempt to trademark the term, affiliates have banded together, linking to one another, to show their disapproval of a trademark for the term Mac Poker.

Here’s the thing.. It seems that Daniel Moravec and company (Best Odds Corp which is the parent company of Macpokeronline.com) has filed a trademark request for the term Mac Poker, and he’s suing poker affiliates such as Michael Jackness and company (Protos Marketing) for infringing on the trademark.

According to reports from Jackness, the lawsuit has already cost his company upwards of $50,000.00

In the lawsuit Moravec claims that Jackness has been infringing on Bests’s service mark MAC Poker which has caused deception and confusion to Best’s customers.

“Fighting the application by September 25th will cost Protos Marketing between $20,000 and $25,000, bringing the grand total to over $70,000.” Dan Cypra, PokerNewsDaily.com

The first question that comes to mind is the fact that Moravec is attempting to trademark a trademark. There was the possibility that Macintosh wouldn’t find out about it, until it was posted on the affiliate forums..The community is outraged. Many have banded together in support of Jackness and company, claiming that there is no possible way he was the first to use the term Mac Poker.

I hope this has inspired many people to make money from the Mac poker niche. Now that we all know it’s worth a lot I’d like to see many people come along and go for it. – Nat Arem

An anonymous poster appeared on the forum in defense of Mr. Moravec.  For the most part the community has decided it would be a bad idea to alert Apple of Dan’s attempt to trademark their mark, however, a quick Google News search revealed 11 newly written articles on the topic.

PokerNewsBoy.com Shared a list of Mac Poker Sites in effort to prove that the term cannot possibly be trademarked due largely to the fact that it is a generic term:

Mac Poker Sites

Mac PokerCompatible Poker currently ranks 3rd for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerMacPoker.com currently ranks 4th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerPoker Listings currently ranks 6th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerMacPoker.co.uk currently ranks 7th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerTight Poker currently ranks 8th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerMacPoker.net currently ranks 9th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerPokerStars currently ranks 10th for the term Mac Poker.

Mac PokerPoker Mac currently ranks 12th for the term Mac Poker.

In reality, new sites are popping up everyday featuring Mac Poker Online pages. This isn’t the first time that Moravec has come after an affiliate with super affiliate status over the term either.

We talked today with a very well known super affiliate, a baller, a well known online marketing giant  if you will, who claims that he was also threatened by Moravec as far back as 2005 for a Mac Poker type website.

So Moravec was demanding domains in 2005, due to the obvious infringement on his domain, but in 2006, he was selling them, and now in 2010, he’s demanding them again? Filing Law suits?

For now we can only wait and see what happens. Will Moravec get his trademark? Will the online poker community prevail in stopping him? Or will it be Apple that prevails? Will there be long lasting negative results? It’s anyone’s guess at this point, and you, can do your guessing below.

UB’s Rebranding Efforts Could Cost Affiliates Thousands

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Ultimate Bet has once again changed altered their affiliate link structure. This announcement means that all Ultimate Bet (UB) affiliate links will need to update their tracking links as soon as possible. The new Ultimate Bet links will be displayed as follows:

New Ultimate Bet Affiliate Link Format: http://www.ub.com/?ubAffilID=XXXXX
Old Ultimate Bet Affiliate Format: http://www.ultimatebet.com/?ubAffilID=XXXXX

Here’s an excerpt from a recent UB.net email:

As you know, UltimateBet was recently rebranded UB.com. The revitalized brand means more excitement for the passionate poker player and there’s a lot in store for affiliates too.

Kind of looks like the company just decided to change the drapes, and cost affiliates thousands of dollars in the process? It’s sort of like a coupon for UB right? Save thousands of dollars redecorating, get the cash from affiliates!

How does this effect you? It could mean the loss of thousands of dollars. Links that have been placed in guest blogs, article submissions, etc are just null and void as of now, free traffic to UB. All affiliate links that are not changed to this new format by …. are just free traffic to Ultimate Bet.

The launch of the UB name as a brand comes with creative updates to banners, SEO changes and updates to your links as well.   It is important to note that all references, text, and text links MUST be changed from UltimateBet.com to UB.com.

Chipleader didn’t announce the last date that the old trackers will track. We’ve emailed for clarification.

Royal Apollo Casino Shuts Down; All Affiliate Accounts Closed

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Royal Apollo Casino was launched in 2009 and it seems the casino is having problems. After only about a year in service the casino is shutting its doors and recommending that affiliates of the casino terminate their affiliate deals.

The Royal Apollo Casino sent out a letter recently which read:

Dear affiliates, Due to the ongoing issues we are having with processing and Rival management we will be closing down our site in the next few days. We are committed to providing top standards of gaming and support to both players and affiliates. This decision was not easy, but the ongoing issues are not allowing us to offer these standards. Please terminate all affiliate deals within the immediate, we hope (we can’t enforce this as its Rival that holds all fees), that Rival will respect and honor the current and future revenue that you are entitled to. Thank you, Michael and Emma, Royal Apollo Affiliates

Apparently the casino was having troubles with Rival and they chose to shut down their site instead of switching software providers. Hopefully Rival will honor the affiliates with the funds they should receive if not they may have a large battle on their hands.

Absolute Poker announces Changes that Slash Affiliate Earnings

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Absolute poker and the Cereus network have announced new changes that might just make you stop and wonder if they don’t set out at the beginning of their work day looking to destroy their own reputation.

There are very few people left in the Online Poker industry that don’t immediately think of the cheating scandal involving Absolute Poker in 2007. That scandal was of course followed up with some similar accusations and findings at Ultimate Bet.

Needless to say, now is the time the company should either re-brand entirely, or work toward earning the trust of poker affiliates, and poker players yet again.

They’ve got another plan altogether though it would seem. Chipleader, the affiliate program in charge of managing affiliates for both Absolute Poker and UB has announced a change in the way that new registering and depositing players will be credited to affiliates.

Since April 19th, any  new player is only allowed one account to be tagged and/or commission to be paid on the CEREUS network. It’s a little confusing, so we’ll break it down for you.

Let’s say Player Joe signs up for an Absolute Poker account by clicking a banner on your website, the later, he signs up for an account at UB, he while shopping for a new site.

The player likes UB, you as his referring affilaite already got credit for him at Absolute Poker, and since serious has decided that they won’t pay for the second referall, no one gets credit for him at UB.

Chipleader now gets the rake from this player at UB for free. Even if the player transferred their cash from their Absolute Poker account using the option available to them in the lobby.
