Titan Poker pro Trickett captures Partouche Poker Tour Championship

Monday, November 14th, 2011

After a two-month delay (a la the World Series of Poker) the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event final table participants were back in action this past weekend, with the €1 million first-place prize-money on the line, and what a final table it was!

With a log-jam at the top of the leader-board entering play, Team Titan Poker’s Sam Trickett found himself leading the field, but not by very much. And with the likes of 2011 WSOP bracelet winner and POY candidate Oleksii Kovalchuk, French poker star Roger Hairabedian, Alexander Dovzhenko, and Mads Wissing still in the running, the Partouche Poker Tour title was within any player’s grasp.

That said, Trickett would prove to be too much for the rest of the table, and even a 2-to-1 chip disadvantage during heads-up play was not enough to keep the UK poker pro out of the winner’s circle. The win was the third score of the year for Trickett that totaled over $1 million in prize-money (the other two coming in high-roller events at the Aussie Millions) and his $4.5 million in tournament earnings for the year is starting to approach Erik Seidel territory!

Here is a look at how the final nine players finished at the 2011 Partouche poker Tour final table:

  1. Samuel Trickett — €1,000,000
  2. Salman Behbehani — €600,000
  3. Oleksii Kovalchuk — €379,760
  4. Ilan Boujenah — €300,000
  5. Roger Hairabedian — €230,000
  6. Alexander Dovzhenko — €190,000
  7. Mustapha Kanit — €160,000
  8. Alexandre Coussy — €130,000
  9. Mads Wissing — €100,000

Sami ‘LarsLuzak’ Kelopuro wins SCOOP Championship

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

With 380 entrants the $10,000 buy-in PokerStars SCOOP Main Event shattered its $2.5 million guaranteed prize-pool, with the final tally hitting $3.8 million, and battling for the title on Day 2 of the tournament were some of the biggest names in poker including EPT winner Toby Lewis, online pro Sami “LarsLuzak/lrslzk” Kelopuro, EPT Berlin champ Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky, online star Matt “ADZ124″ Marafioti, and Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.

In the end two of those players would wind up at the final table with one of them walking home with the SCOOP Main Event title –despite not winning the most prize-money thanks to a 5-way deal at the end of the tournament.

Sami “lrslzk” Kelopuro and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis were both amongst the final nine players in the tournament, but it was Kelopuro who would go on to win the title, with Lewis finishing in 6th place and missing out on an equity chop made between the final five players.

Here is a look at the payouts for the final table of the 2011 SCOOP Main Event at PokerStars:

1. Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro (Finland) $504,691.09*
2. Tagult (Germany) $540,125,82*
3. StigR (Norway) $390,000.00*
4. altiFC (Germany) $369,581.05*
5. danskemann (Norway) $430,002.05*
6. Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis (United Kingdom) $167,200.00
7. GotURead (Netherlands) $129,200.00
8. el_klonkador (Sweden) $91,200.00
9. Hernan “HN Kakaroto” Novick (Uruguay) $66,500.00

Seidel poised for another High Roller victory

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Having made it to Day 2 of the WPT $100k Super-High-Roller tournament it looked like Erik Seidel’s reign of supremacy in $100k buy-in tournaments was about to come to a close, but barely through a single level on Day 2 there was Seidel shooting up the leader-board. And now with the tournament on break until 12:30PM on Friday, there is Seidel, preparing himself to battle Erick Lindgren heads-up for another Super-High-Roller title in 2011!

Whether he wins or loses the heads-up battle against his fellow Team Full Tilt poker Pro, Seidel will surpass the $5 million mark in tournament winnings for the year, and we haven’t even gotten to the World Series of Poker yet!

Seidel will take a sizeable chip advantage into Friday’s heads-up duel, as he holds a 7,120,000 to 4,480,000 edge over Lindgren –although both players have plenty of room to maneuver with the blinds and antes at 40k/80k with a 10K ante.

With a total of 29 entries, five players managed to cash in the tournament, with the unfortunate bubble-boy being Cary Katz, who walked away -$100,000 while 5th place finisher Justin Bonomo’s min-cash was worth $224,160 –probably one of the biggest bubble discrepancies of all-time considering it’s a difference of nearly $325,000!

Here is a look at the payouts for the Super-High-Roller tournament:

1st Place: Undetermined $1,092,780
2nd Place: Undetermined $700,500
3rd Place: Daniel Negreanu $448,320
4th Place: Vivek Rajkumar $336,240
5th Place: Justin Bonomo $224,160

Accused Partouche Poker Tour cheat talks to Card Player

Monday, May 16th, 2011

When poker pro Ali Tekintamgak showed up for the final table of the Partouche Poker Tour Grand Finale last November the former WPT Spain winner discovered he had been disqualified from the tournament for cheating. The rumors of Tekintamgak’s cheating have been widespread and not simply limited to the Partouche Poker Tour –he allegedly uses fake poker bloggers on the tournament floor to signal him the strength of an opponent’s hand—something the Turkish born German vehemently denies.

The case against Tekintamgak was turned over to the French authorities by the PPT who were unable to charge him with any crime –keep in mind that the type of cheating he is accused of would only be evident to experienced casino security officials—which has brought a €1.5 million lawsuit from Tekintamgak against the Partouche Poker Tour.

Despite having a Russ Hamilton-like reputation in the poker world, Tekintamgak has continued to play in tournaments around the world, and Card Player Magazine caught up with him at the current WPT Championship at the Bellagio where Tekintamgak answered a handful of questions for reporter Brian Pempus.

Pempus asked Tekintamgak about the lawsuit, and also how the scandal has affected him when he plays in major poker tournaments. If the accusations prove to be untrue then I really feel bad for Tekintamgak; if they are true then you can add liar alongside cheat to his titles considering this statement he made to Pempus:

“I can’t really concentrate. I am feeling pretty nervous right now. A guy at my table recognized me and wrote it online and told his friends about it. The casino staff here were talking about me. I realize everyone talks about me. A lot of bloggers and media come over and watch me. I am feeling pretty nervous about [the attention].”

Young stars rise to the top on Day 2 of EPT Grand Finale

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Day 2 of the PokerStars EPT Grand Finale in Madrid, Spain saw a number of poker’s up-and-coming young stars end the day in the Top 10 on the leader-board. Among the players who surged to the top of the leader-board were Full Tilt Poker Red Pro Melanie Weisner, recent EPT Berlin winner Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky, and William Reynolds. Joining the young stars in the Top 10 is longtime pro Victor Ramdin, who has been having a sensational 2011 tournament season thus far.

Day 2 came to a close on Monday with the money bubble being burst, so all of the remaining players are guaranteed at least €15,000 for their efforts at the EPT Grand Finale, but now that the players no longer have to worry about going home empty-handed I’m quite certain that virtually every player remaining has their eyes on the €1.5 million first-place prize.

Here is a look at the top 10 chip counts heading into Day 3 of the EPT Grand Finale:

1.    Ole Kristian Nergard — 726,000
2.    Kristoffer Thorsson — 701,500
3.    Daniel Weinman — 676,000
4.    Hugo Lemaire — 658,000
5.    Melanie Weisner — 543,500
6.    William Reynolds — 541,500
7.    Jose Nadal — 533,500
8.    Ben Wilinofsky — 533,000
9.    Simon Higgins — 517,500
10.    Victor Ramdin — 494,500

Day 3 of the EPT Grand Finale will get underway at noon local time on Tuesday, where the field of 104 players will be pared down to just 24 players by the end of the day.

FTOPS XX looks to make online poker history

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Although Full Tilt Poker is not advertising it as such, like they did with their successful (for a few hours anyway) attempt to supplant PokerStars in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most entrants in an online poker tournament, it seems they have their eyes set on the largest prize-pool in online poker history with their $7.5 million Guaranteed FTOPS XX Main Event tournament.

When PokerStars caught wind of Full Tilt’s plans to top their ‘most entries’ record they immediately created their own Guinness World Record tournament which bested Full Tilt Poker on the very same day, so it looks like Full Tilt Poker is trying to keep this attempt on the down-low –although it should be obvious to anyone that they think they have a shot of surpassing the $12,215,000 record set by last year’s WCOOP Main Event on PokerStars.

The Main Event of the FTOPS XIX boasted a $3 million guarantee and managed to almost triple that number when all was said and done thanks to their newest innovation ‘Multi-Entry Tournaments’, coming in at just under $9 million. If Full Tilt can exceed their $7.5 million guarantee by 75% –which seems easily manageable when you consider the FTOPS XIX tournament exceeded its guaranteed prize-pool by nearly 300%– it will indeed be the largest prize-pool in online poker history… That is, until the 2011 WCOOP gets underway on PokerStars!

5th Anniversary of Sunday Millions shatters record

Monday, March 7th, 2011

With a $5 million guaranteed prize-pool, and a cool million dollars guaranteed to the winner, we all expected the 5th anniversary of the Sunday Millions tournament to be one for the ages, but when the final tallies came in, I don’t think anybody expected these kind of numbers!

A total 59,128 players registered for the $215 tournament –that usually boasts a guaranteed prize-pool of $1.5 million—so the total prize-pool swelled to an astounding $11,825,600! This makes the Sunday Million 5th anniversary tournament the second largest prize-pool in online tournament history –falling just shy of the 2010 WCOOP Main Event which topped off at $12,215,000.

Not only will the winner of the Sunday Millions Anniversary tournament walk away with over $1 million ($1,655,629.38 to be precise) even the runner up will receive a $1,182,560 payday. The winner of the tournament will also receive the added bonus of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

The number of entrants nearly eclipsed PokerStars record-setting tournament back in July 2009 when 65,000 players entered a $1 tournament on the site: This time around the buy-in was $215 and PokerStars nearly attracted 60,000 players, making it the second largest tournament in online poker history both in terms of the overall prize-pool as well as the number of entrants –Absolutely astounding!

The first Sunday Million tournament was held on March 5, 2006 and was won by a player using the screen-name “aaaaaaaa”.

FTOPS Multi-Entry poker tournaments exceeding expectations

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Most in the poker world were pretty excited about the idea of Full Tilt Poker’s Multi-Entry tournaments, but I don’t think anyone envisioned just how much they would change the poker landscape. The Multi-Entry Tournaments taking place during the FTOPS XIX have not only been exceeding their guaranteed prize-pools they have been absolutely destroying them, with some tournaments tripling to near quadrupling their guarantees –which were sizable to begin with.

Thus far there have been five Multi-Entry tournaments at the FTOPS XIX, and all have at least doubling their guarantees:

·    Event #3 $250k guarantee $300 NLHE Turbo Multi-Entry, ended up with 3,291 entries and a total prize-pool of $987,300!
·    Event #10 $500,000 guarantee $100 NLHE 6-Max Rebuy Multi-Entry saw 4,302 players take to the virtual tables and generate a $1.5 million prize-pool.
·    Event #15 $350,000 guarantee $315 Super-Turbo Multi-Entry saw 3,500 entrants and created a prize-pool of just over $1 million.
·    Event #22 $1 million guaranteed $120 Knockout tournament Multi-Entry attracted an astounding 23,342 participants/entries, swelling the prize-pool to $2.3 million
·    Event $24 $1.5 million guarantee $300 NLHE tournament Multi-Entry ended with over 11,300 entries. The total prize-pool reached an absolutely amazing $3.4 million –a number that would exceed the $3 million guarantee of the FTOPS XIX Main Event which is a $600 buy-in NLHE tournament with Multi-Entries.

Multi-Entry tournaments allow players to register for the same tournament multiple times, or to reenter the tournament should they be eliminated before the late registration period ends.

jungleman12 bests durrrr in a short poker session

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan’s late swan-dive at the online poker tables continued last night as he not only dropped $110,000, but also fell further behind in his challenge match to Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates. Cates got the better of Dwan in a short 367 hand session on Full Tilt poker, and was able to extend his lead in the heads-up challenge match to nearly $750,000 according to highstakesdb.com and the 2+2 poker forum.

The two have now played roughly 20% of the total hands in the match (10,000 of the 50,000), and Cates has been way out in front almost from the get go. Should Dwan lose to Cates, he would not only suffer his losses from the game, but also a further $1.5 million stipulated by the challenge match details –should he come back and defeat Cates, Cates would have to pay Dwan a further $500,000.

The match stipulates that the two must play 50,000 hands of heads-up poker at agreed upon stakes, and the sessions must be played 4-tables at a time. Whichever player is showing a profit at the end of the 50,000 hands will be declared the winner.

This loss comes on the heels of Dwan dropping over $1 million at the Full Tilt Poker tables in a single day last week, and is reminiscent of how he finished 2009, suffering massive losses at the end of the year.

Dwan is also still enmeshed in his challenge match against Patrik Antonius, which has Dwan up nearly $2 million with around 10,000 hands left to play.

Ziigmund’s troubles continue at Full Tilt Poker

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies started off 2010 with a flourish, but a recent downswing left the Finnish poker pro reeling and about $800,000 in the red. Sahamies has called the run that has seen him go from up $1 million to down $1 million in two months, the worst of his career. After booking a solid $113,000 win earlier this week Ziigmund was hoping the worst was behind him, but just a day later Sahamies suffered a crushing $500,000 loss at the high-stakes poker tables.

Ziigmund’s troubles began yesterday when he took on Daniel “jungleman12” Cates at the $200/$400 PLO tables. Cates has owned the high-stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker in 2010, besting virtually every player who frequents the site, and according to the high-stakes tracking site highstakesdb.com winning almost $5 million in the process.

Cates was able to relieve Ziigmund of $300,000 during their heads-up match which lasted only 300 hands! Ziigmund would go on to play against the “Phil’s” later in the evening, Ivey and Galfond, and lose a further $200,000, putting his total losses for the day at around $500,000.

The good news –if there can be good news when you are down $1.2 million for the year– is that Ziigmund seems to have officially left his tilt-filled days behind him, as he seems to have remained level-headed throughout the current ordeal.
