Neilson leads final 8 at EPT San Remo Main Event

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

It was another short day in San Remo as the EPT San Remo Main Event went from 24 players down to the final table of eight players. Chris McClung was unable to continue his hot-streak that saw him end both Day and Day 4 of the tournament as the chip-leader, which allowed Daniel Neilson to take over the top spot, after being in the top 5 on both Day 3 and Day 4.

Joining Neilson at the final table will be some tough competitors in the form of Jan Bendik, Barny Boatman, and former EPT winner Kevin MacPhee, who will enter the final table as the short-stack, but could be very dangerous if he can manage to chip-up early on.

In addition to McClung, Alessio Isaia, Johnny Lodden, Lex Veldhuis, and 2011 WSOPE Champion Elio Fox all hit the rail on Wednesday.

Here is how the final eight players will enter Thursday’s final table for Season 8 of the EPT tour’s San Remo Main Event:

  1. Daniel Neilson — 6,700,000
  2. Dimitar Danchev — 4,435,000
  3. Jan Bendik — 3,980,000
  4. Andrey Pateychuk — 3,105,000
  5. Barny Boatman — 2,490,000
  6. Yorane Kerignard — 2,145,000
  7. Rocco Palumbo — 1,160,000
  8. Kevin MacPhee — 1,115,000

There is a lot on the line on Thursday as the 8th place finisher will receive roughly €63,000 while the winner of the tournament will pocket a hefty €800,000.

After 4 days 24 players still alive in EPT San Remo

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

One of the biggest poker tournaments of the year will be entering its penultimate day on Wednesday, with a mere 24 players still in contention for the €800,000 first-place prize-money. Leading the final three tables is the Day 3 chip leader, Chris McClung. The Canadian poker pro McClung once again dominated the action, and for the second straight day ended the day with a sizable chip-lead.

In what was another short day at the EPT San Remo, it took the 64 players who sat down to begin the day about seven hours to reach the final three tables, at which point play was halted for the night.

McClung will face some stiff competition on Day 5 of the 2011 EPT San Remo Main Event considering some of the other notable players that also survived Day 4’s action: EPT and WPT Champion Alessio Isaia, PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden, Kevin MacPhee, Barny Boatman, PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis, 2011 WSOPE Main Event Champion Elio Fox, and Mike “Timex” McDonald.

Hitting the rail on Tuesday were 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, David Back, John Duthie, and Tyler Bonkowski.

Here is a look at the chip-leaders heading into Day of the EPT San Remo:

  1. Chris McClung – 3,148,000
  2. Daniel Neilson – 2,011,000
  3. Mustapha Kanit – 1,761,000
  4. Alessio Isaia – 1,524,000

  8. Jan Bendik – 1,211,000
  9. Andrey Pateychuk – 1,200,000
  10. Dimitar Danchev – 1,196,000

Day 5 will see the remaining players play-down to the final table of eight players.

PokerStars unveils massive schedule for EPT London stop

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Beginning on September 29th, The PokerStars European Poker Tour is planning one of the most ambitious undertakings in EPT history, with a proposed EPT London schedule that will see 30 tournaments take place in just seven days culminating with the £5,000 Main Event.

The EPT London has been one of the most prestigious titles since the inception of the European Poker Tour, and last year a record-setting field of 848 players entered the Main Event –which was eventually won by Scotland’s David Vamplew, while the LAPT legend Jose “Nacho” Barbero managed to walk away with the EPT London high-roller crown.

The tournament will once again play double duty, as it once again will be part of the UKIPT European Poker Championships as the tour’s grand final event.

One of the most interesting tournaments on the schedule will take place on September 29th when the EPT hosts its first ever 5-Card PLO 8 or better tournament, which will be a £550 affair, and should see some wild and crazy play!

The Main Event will feature two Day 1 starting flights on September 30th and October 1st, and will last until the final table on October 6th, the last day of the tournament series. Form Day 3 onwards you can watch a live stream of the Main Event on PokerStars.tv.

ElkY second Triple Crown winner at 2011 World Series of Poker

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

In Event #2, the $25k Heads-Up Championship, it was Jake Cody who broke through with his first WSOP bracelet and when added to his EPT Deauville and WPT London Championships made him the third Triple Crown winner in poker history –joining Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe as the only players to win a WSOP bracelet, an EPT Main Event, and a WPT Main Event tournament.

On Tuesday that group grew yet again as former EPT PCA Champion and WPT Festa al Lago Champion Bertrand “ElkY” Grosspellier won his first WSOP bracelet in the $10k Seven Card Stud Championship, joining the very exclusive group of Triple Crown winners.

Cody was the youngest and also accomplished the feat with the shortest period of time between wins, but ElkY’s Triple Crown came with its own significance as all three of his wins came in tournaments with buy-ins of at least $10,000.

Making the accomplishment all the more impressive was the fact that ElKY claims to have never played Stud Poker prior to his win in the WSOP $10k Stud Championship! After the win ElkY told the reporters on hand, “As my friend pushed me to play he said I had a really good memory for the cards so I can analyze the cards and the combination… I think I caught up quickly and all the poker games are all similar. It’s about reading your opponents and adapting to the situation.”

Season 8 schedule for the European Poker Tour announced

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Late last week PokerStars announced the schedule for the upcoming season of the European Poker Tour on their official website. Well, the first half of the schedule anyway, as a total of seven tournaments were listed with venues and dates.

The stops announced come with little surprise as all of the seven tournament series announced have been part of the EPT prior to Season 8, including the EPT London, EPT Barcelona, and EPT San Remo.

Once again on the schedule is the only stop on the European Poker Tour outside of Europe, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure that takes place every January in the Bahamas, and has been included as part of the PT tour since its inception.

Here is a look at the first seven stops for Season 8 of the PokerStars EPT:

•    August 2 – 7, 2011: EPT Tallinn (Estonia) — €4,000 + €250 Main Event
•    August 27 – September 1, 2011: EPT Barcelona (Spain) — €5,000 + €300 Main Event
•    September 30 – Oct. 5, 2011: EPT London (England) — £5,000 + £250 Main Event
•    October 21 – 27, 2011: EPT San Remo (Italy) — €4,600 + €300 Main Event
•    December 5 – 10, 2011: EPT Prague (Czech Republic) — €5,000 + €300 Main Event
•    January 5 – 14, 2012: 2012 PCA (Bahamas) — $10,000 + $300 Main Event
•    January 31 – February 6, 2012: EPT Deauville (France) – €5,000 + €300 Main Event

Sami ‘LarsLuzak’ Kelopuro wins SCOOP Championship

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

With 380 entrants the $10,000 buy-in PokerStars SCOOP Main Event shattered its $2.5 million guaranteed prize-pool, with the final tally hitting $3.8 million, and battling for the title on Day 2 of the tournament were some of the biggest names in poker including EPT winner Toby Lewis, online pro Sami “LarsLuzak/lrslzk” Kelopuro, EPT Berlin champ Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky, online star Matt “ADZ124″ Marafioti, and Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.

In the end two of those players would wind up at the final table with one of them walking home with the SCOOP Main Event title –despite not winning the most prize-money thanks to a 5-way deal at the end of the tournament.

Sami “lrslzk” Kelopuro and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis were both amongst the final nine players in the tournament, but it was Kelopuro who would go on to win the title, with Lewis finishing in 6th place and missing out on an equity chop made between the final five players.

Here is a look at the payouts for the final table of the 2011 SCOOP Main Event at PokerStars:

1. Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro (Finland) $504,691.09*
2. Tagult (Germany) $540,125,82*
3. StigR (Norway) $390,000.00*
4. altiFC (Germany) $369,581.05*

Young stars rise to the top on Day 2 of EPT Grand Finale

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Day 2 of the PokerStars EPT Grand Finale in Madrid, Spain saw a number of poker’s up-and-coming young stars end the day in the Top 10 on the leader-board. Joining the young stars in the Top 10 is longtime pro Victor Ramdin, who has been having a sensational 2011 tournament season thus far.

Day 2 came to a close on Monday with the money bubble being burst, so all of the remaining players are guaranteed at least €15,000 for their efforts at the EPT Grand Finale, but now that the players no longer have to worry about going home empty-handed I’m quite certain that virtually every player remaining has their eyes on the €1.5 million first-place prize.
