PokerStars will no longer be servicing the Washington State online poker market. PokerStars announced earlier today that the online poker site will no longer provide real money poker games to residents of Washington State.
This is a humongous blow to the online poker market in the United States. Up until now the poker site went ahead and offered real money online gambling to Washington Residents, and paid affilaites for traffic brought to them from Washington. That’s all changed now.
Before it was believed that the government in the United States could not legally and constitutionally regulate the use of the Internet to play poker, and that the government at the very least could not discriminate against online poker providers in favor of local land based operations.
What changed? The Washington Supreme Court ruled in favor the states ban on online gambling in favor of the censorship of their residents activities. Washingtonians, it’s time to watch porn and rated R movies, before someone says it’s immoral and you no longer have the option. In fact, have a cigarette, drink some caffeine, and hit on a Milf while you have some of your freedom.
When you’re done with all that. Either find a new way to accomodate Washington gamblers, or remove marketing for that state.

Norway recently created a ban that has affect gamblers in the country. Players of online poker and other online gambling methods can no longer participate at online sites due to a new ban. The ban is on financial transactions between the residents of Norway and online gambling websites.
The government of Norway submitted the proposal of the financial ban in 2008 to parliament but the European Free Trade Association was not happy with this. The EFTA commented in 2008 that the proposal is an ‘unjustified restriction of the freedoms of the internal market for gambling services’.
Norway is part of the European Free Trade Association with Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Despite the EFTA’s commented Norway went ahead with the plans for the ban and on June 1st the ban came into effect. Now credit card companies and online payment processors are not able to make any online gaming transactions in the country.
The EFTA is now working to challenge the new laws on Norway. The government of the country commented that the ban was created to help with fraud and gambling addictions. Many are opposed to the ban and Clive Hawkswood a Chief executive of the Remote Gambling Association has commented on the ban by stating:
“It is difficult to believe that the aim of the proposed measures is to protect consumers and restrict gambling given the Norwegian monopoly’s appetite for recruiting new players and the extent of its marketing campaigns. The Norwegian authorities appear to be more motivated by the need to protect revenues from gambling, but this is not a valid justification to restrict the internal market rules.”

The domain name Slots.com recently came up for sale on the internet gaming market and has been announced that the Bodog Brand is the new owner of the domain name. Bodog had to pay $5.5 million at an online auction to obtain the gaming domain.
The auction took place at Snapnames online and it was the founder of Bodog Calvin Ayre who bid on the name. Ayre was at the L’Atelier restaurant when he began bidding. Bob Rains an SEO specialist gave Ayre the information he needed about the availability of the domain name.
Ayre felt that he paid a good price for the domain name as it is a very generic name. Other similar generic gambling domain names have sold for millions as well. Slots games are one of the more popular choices for online gamblers and so the potential for the Slots.com domain name are really limitless.
Currently the domain name has about 15,000 people a day visiting the site but with the Bodog name behind the site, the potential for traffic becomes much larger. Ayre commented on buy-in Slots.com by stating:
“After Casino.com, we feel that Slots.com is the best gaming domain in the world. Bigger even than Poker.com because there are no strong brands in this space and slots are far more universal than poker. Just look at the amount of space a casino devotes to slots over poker, added to which it’s simple to spell and easy to remember.”
Ayre also commented on how the Slots.com site will work for them. He stated: “Slots.com will work for us on a number of levels, not least in generating global traffic to our Bodog branded properties but also to form a number of other targeted websites including one that will be created by and for the female gambler.”

At the recent Global iGaming Summit and Expo, Bob Rybak a spokesperson for the Atlantic Lottery, stated that the Lottery, Loto Quebec and British Columbia Lottery have completed the creation stage of a shared online gambling and poker platform. Rybak commented that the platform should be ready to launch later this year.
Rybak went on to outline the future of online poker and gambling in the country during the expo. Those attending the expo found out that Manitoba and Ontario are also going to offer poker but they are a little further behind with launch dates.
Rybak commented that about $800 million was spent by Canadians last year online and the majority of the money was going offshore. The provinces of Canada would like to see the majority of the money coming to them so they worked together to create the large network to serve online gamblers in Canada.
Rybak also commented that the public would need to see that operators are going to keep underage player from accessing the platform before they would give their blessing. However some critics are not convinced that the operators will be able to keep young kids from accessing the site. Shane Simpson a gambling critic stated: “internet gambling is potentially the most problematic for people who have gambling addictions…and yet the government is expanding there without offering any other support.”
Simpson stated that the new platform will be marketing itself to a younger audience who would benefit from gambling on the go. The young people would also have access to the new platform via their mobile devices.
