Last week’s news that Cake Poker and PokerListings.com were forming a “Strategic Partnership” with the hopes of creating a mutually beneficial relationship to benefit each other’s bottom line –at this time it’s still unclear if PokerListings.com purchased the Cake Poker Network or purchased a percentage of the company.
In a press release the two companies discussed the partnership with Cake Network Marketing Director Andrew Turner stating:
“We are extremely excited to become a major component of PokerListings.com’s massive online presence… The value of being integrated into one of the premiere leaders in new player acquisition and poker-related search can not be overstated and will have a significant impact on the Cake Network ecosystem and overall liquidity. This partnership positions the Cake Network for future growth in terms of new depositing players as well as for the addition of several strategic network partners.”
On their end PokerListings.com has made the commitment of driving over 2,000 new, depositing, players to the Cake Poker tables each month –a lofty goal to say the least. PokerLisitings.com spokesman Martin Carlesund stated in the press release that:
“We have been looking for this kind of partnership for some time now and we are very happy to have closed this deal with Cake Network. Not only does the partnership bring great commercial value to our respective companies, but we are very proud to secure the best possible deals for PokerListings.com’ visitors”
It will be interesting to see if PokerListings begins offering exclusive deals not available through other poker affiliates, and how the “Strategic Partnership” affects PokerListings.com current relationships with other online poker rooms.

There are two ways to push your website with facebook. You can make a facebook fan page for your website and/or you can add a facebook like button to every page on your website. Doesn’t matter if you do one or both of these methods the goal is bringing more traffic to your poker website and convert those visitors into players.
Facebook Fan Page
Creating a facebook fan page you don’t need to create a new facebook account if you already have one. You log into your facebook account scroll down to the bottom click on advertising then click on pages then click on create new page. Once you have done this follow the steps to creating a page and then you done. All you have to do after that is add a facebook icon to your website for visitors to follow your website on facebook.
Once you have 25 followers you can set your facebook fan page with its own username. For example, if your poker site was called acescracked then you can set your fan page to facebook.com/acescracked
Important Tip: Contract friends, family, or other poker affiliates to reach 25 fans quickly to set your username.
Benefits: The benefits of having a facebook fan page for your website are an easy way to update your players on small changes or promotions. You can find out what they are looking for, the reason they play poker, and their plans for their online poker career.
Facebook Like Button
Adding facebook like button is a lot more easier than creating a facebook fan page however it does take a lot more time to add a facebook like button to every page on your poker website. Go to facebook like button page and follow the steps to get the code to place on your website. Recommended to place the code above your content or under your content for most user friendly and get the most clicks.
Benfits: The benefits of having like buttons on every page of your website allows you to reach even visitors then you would normally reach. Each time a visitor like a page all of their friends and family can see the link they have liked.
Doing the combo of both of these tips will provide you with a bigger chance to reach more poker players, build a relationship with your players, run promotions just for your players on your facebook fan page or just a way to provide the information of the promotion, and build a brand for your poker website and having a trusted brand will make it that much more easier to sign up new poker players because your website will look like the authority in your niche.
Poker players that already signed up to your website will be more willing to recommend their family, friends, and total strangers to sign up to an online poker room through your poker website because they trust your website and the brand. Just remember, when doing social media marketing on facebook its about building a relationship with the players and not spamming them with offers over and over again.

Every new poker affiliate is recommended to add Google Analytics to their website from the older poker affiliates. Of course being new to the business you have no idea the reason behind this or how to leverage Google Analytics. After getting some traffic most new poker affiliates look at the graphs, say cool, and notice where their traffic is coming from and what pages their visitors viewing.
Google Analytics goes beyond just those steps and learning how to leverage this information to increase traffic levels, monthly sign ups, and income is somewhat of an art. Poker affiliates that know how to use this information are 10 times more likely to become mid level affiliates or super affiliates in the long run.
Once you have Google Analytics installed and set up your goals (very important to track signups) for at least a month or two depending on how bad you really want to review your stats. It is time to review where traffic is coming from.
Traffic Sources Overview
This will tells you the following traffic sources; search engine (free & paid), referring (other websites most likely social media; twitter, facebook, and etc.), and direct traffic (type-in). For the most part you want to focus on your keywords if getting traffic from the search engines is your focus and where the signups came from if you have any.
You will to make sure your bounce rate is less than 75% the lower this number goes the better. You want visitors on your website and not clicking the back button. So knowing which keywords have the low bounce rate may be the keywords to push for if they are converting for you.
Other stats to look at are your page views for the given keyword, you want the visitors to view more than one page. The longer they are on your website the more likely you going to convert them into players. This should get you to build backlinks for these keywords to bring in more traffic for the website.
Map Overlay
This are the stats that tell you what country are your visitors are in. This can be very useful if you want to focus on one or more countries as well as discover new markets to focus on. Also, this can help with your keyword research to find out how many searches are being done in that given country.
Content Overview
Now these stats are by far my favorite for a few reasons. You can learn which page visitors went to or came from as well as the keywords or other traffic sources. You can also see what internal links did the visitors clicked on. So much information to help you change your website to perform better and be a lot more user friendly to shorten the visitors path to sign up for online poker, rakeback, deposit bonus, and whatever other promotions you are running like rake races, rake chases, and etc.
Closing Statement
This is just the beginning of what you can do with Google Analytics. You can do a lot more with all the stats that are given and push your website to new highs when it comes to traffic, signups, and income.

A lot of poker affiliates don’t cross promote poker games let alone know what cross promoting poker games are. While super poker affiliates are doing this across their poker websites and enjoying the benefits of higher conversion rates from poker strategy websites that are hard to convert and some small/mid level poker affiliates started using the cross promotion for converting rush poker traffic. This method can be applied to all poker games.
What Is Cross Promotion?
Cross promotion is when you have an article about one format of a poker game and in the call to action you promote another format of that poker game or another poker game altogether.
I.e. you have an article about sit and go’s and you add a call to action saying “poker players that enjoy playing sit and go’s also like to play double or nothing sitngos.”
With a link in double or nothing sitngos for internal linking, it not only helps with introducing a new game to a poker player you also have another internal link for SEO benefits.
How To Convert With Cross Promotion?
Now if you want to convert some of the players right from that article and not have them visit another article about a poker game. You have to apply a call to action to sign up to a poker room with the recommendation of the other poker game.
I.e. in the same article about sit and go’s you want to change that call to action to say something like this “poker players that enjoy playing sit and go’s also like to play double or nothing sitngos. The best place to play double or nothing sitngos is at Doyle’s room sign up for 110% match up to $550 deposit bonus and 33% rakeback.”
Now you can link to the other article about double or nothing sitngos giving the visitor another page to visit on your website and stay longer and link to the Doyle’s room sign up page to convert the visitor into a poker player.
Benefits of Cross Promoting Poker Games
Great SEO strategy internal linking the poker game articles and the poker room rakeback offers. The search engines will count more backlinks for your internal pages. This should and will result in moving up in Google and other search engines.
You will convert poker players that want to try a new poker game than the games they normally play and convert the poker players that already knew about the game just didn’t know what poker room to play the game as well as introducing poker players to rakeback that didn’t know about rakeback before visiting your website.
Also, you’re keeping the visitor on your website longer having them visit more pages on your website and give you a better chance of converting your visitors into repeat visitors and poker players. Which in the long term help build your brand trust as more and more poker players see your website, your logo, and become known among other poker players.

With so much competition out there these days as a poker affiliate you can’t just have a rakeback website and think the money will come to you. Poker affiliates need to really think of a poker niche to focus on. It could be a mini-niche niche like focusing on teaching one format of a poker game (i.e. Omaha hi heads up). If you know nothing about poker, losing poker player, or a breakeven poker player than teaching poker to others may not be the way to go. You should pick a niche you can buy content and become the authority for that niche.
Poker Niches
General Rakeback Website – This is your basic fresh out the box rakeback site. You have a homepage laying out the rakeback offers and deposit bonuses. Then you have the review/sign up pages for each poker room listed on the homepage.
This is all it took back when rakeback first started but now this will only work if you focus on ranking number 1 in the search engines for the deposit bonus and rakeback keywords or translating it into a language that hasn’t been done.
How To Website – This type of website is completely focus on the beginner poker player. You add “how to” articles to your poker rakeback website. Once you have written the how to poker articles you focus ranking those pages in the search engines. This will get you a flow of beginner poker players signing up through your website.
The greatest thing about signing up a lot of beginner poker players is some of them will go on to become pro poker players. This is why building a relationship with your players is so important.
Strategy Website – This type of website you can focus on writing strategies for a lot of poker games or one poker game. The type of traffic you will get to this website is poker players trying to improve their poker game. Which means they’re already signed up to an online poker room and it’s your job to get them to sign up somewhere else.
Although at times it can be hard to convert a poker player from one poker room to the next. You should have a clear call to action that points out why they should sign up to a given poker room over just playing at the one they are at. This can be a simple line or two. (i.e. Sign up to UB.com for 111% match up to $1,100 and 30% rakeback because the competition is soft for Omaha hi 6 max cash games.)
Poker Training Website – This website focuses on training poker players to become better and it should have both strategy articles and training videos to help the players see what they need to change in their own game. This can easily take a player from low stakes to mid stakes just by fixing a few problems in his or her playing style.
The greatest thing about these websites it can be easy to convert poker player that seriously want to improve their poker skills. You can require them to sign up for rakeback and rake an x amount to get one on one poker coaching from you. As you coach them they will be playing at the poker room they signed up to, to get the one on one poker training from you. This will not only build trust and a relationship with the player but also make you money.
How To Pick A Poker Niche
As you can see there are many poker niches you can choose from given that only a few were name in this article. Before thinking about putting a plan together for your website, take a moment to think about which niche will suit you best and can you see yourself working on it for months or years on end. If you don’t enjoy it you will not make it as a poker affiliate.
Also, don’t be put off that some of the poker niches that were listed in this article require some poker knowledge to do. You can always pick a niche that suits you best or create a niche. If you want to do a niche that requires poker knowledge and you know nothing about poker, team up with a poker coach or a winning poker player that would like to have a second income stream.

New poker affiliates always wonder which poker domain name is better direct match (keyword focused) or brand-able. The truth is both have pros and cons and each poker affiliate must ask themselves what type of poker affiliate you want to be. Do you want to focus on building tons of mini sites or build one large website people will type-in over using Google and other search engines?
Direct Match Poker Domain Name
Direct match poker domain name is a keyword focused domain name. You buy the poker domain name that is the keyword you are targeting. For example, if you are trying to rank for “rakeback deals” you would buy rakebackdeals.com, .net if the .com isn’t available, or even the .org will do.
This gives you SEO leverage to easily rank for your keyword in the search engines. Having such SEO leverage means you can build less backlinks than other websites and still outrank them for your keyword. However, if you don’t maintain building backlinks once and awhile when you rank number one you will fall from the number 1 position.
Most poker affiliates get direct match domain names for stuff like “poker room name review” (i.e. cakepokerreview.com), “poker room name rakeback” (i.e. doylesroomrakeback.com), and etc. These mini sites are great for quick money but you have to rely on search engines to keep bringing you that traffic. If your website ever disappeared from the search engines you will not get any new signups.
Brand-able Poker Domain Name
Brand-able poker domain name is a catchy domain that will get stuck into visitors minds. You want this website to become an authority in your niche so visitors wouldn’t use google or other search engines they would just type in your url and go straight to your website.
While this does put you at a SEO disadvantage depending on the domain name you bought. Your website will still get traffic from search engines. However, if your website ever disappeared from the search engines your website will still have tons of traffic and get new signups.
The goal is to become a brand name in your niche. This is the hard part, you have to work hard adding tons of content unlike the mini sites which only have up to 50 pages of content. Becoming a authority in your niche can take months or years to achieve. However, once you are an authority the benefits far out weight the cons.
When deciding what poker domain you want for your website. Take the time to think about where you want your website to be in 6 months, 1 year, and even 5 years from now. This will give you an idea as to what type of domain name you should buy either it be keyword focused like a direct match or a brand-able name you can build on.
The bottomline is both type of domain names are useful and can be very profitable but it all comes down to you, what you like to work on, and the goals you set for yourself.

There are many ways to do article marketing. While many poker affiliates think it’s an old method that no longer works. Other poker affiliates that are working hard at article marketing are finding out this method still works very well. It all depends on if you are willing to put in the work to reach success with article marketing. There are no short cuts to success. However, there are some ways to make writing articles a lot easier.
How To Write Unique Poker Articles Fast
The so called secret to writing articles fast is very simple. First pick your topic for the article. This should come from your keyword research or part of your website’s content plan. When writing an article first think of the title and at least two subtitles. This will give you a nice template to write your article fairly quick. If you still have a problem starting the article, you can start the article off with a question or two. The rest of the article should go into detail answering the question or questions.
Rewrite Your Poker Website’s Article
Now that you have written your article for your website, you need to completely rewrite that article at least 2 times. Nothing should be copied from an article to the next. Everything must be rewritten but the title and subtitles can stay the same if you want.
You can now publish the first article on your website and add a link to a related article on your website to the other two articles. The first article you will need to submit to an article site like ezinearticles. The other article should be published on another one of your websites or given to another poker affiliate to publish on their blog or website.
Benefits of Article Marketing
This should be done for every article you write or buy for your poker website. That way you are building your website and building 2 backlinks every time it’s done. As your website grows and gain backlinks it will begin to rank higher in the search engines as well as gain traffic from the other poker affiliates’ websites.
Also, by submitting articles to websites like ezinearticles.com you will gain even more backlinks from people publishing the articles on their websites. Every person that uses an article from these types of websites must keep all links in the article. In turn helps you rank higher and faster in the search engines like Google.
Brand Awareness From Article Marketing
The more poker article marketing you do, the more visitors you gain. This makes poker players aware of your website’s brand the more times they see it the better they will remember it. If a poker player is searching for something. Let’s say a poker strategy article and they come across 3 different articles all with links pointing to an article on your website.
This makes the poker player think that your website is the authority on the subject at hand. They are more likely to type in your website url over using google or any other search egine once they think your website is the authority as well as more likely to sign up to poker rooms through your website than a random website they found on a search egine.

Many new poker affiliates totally forget about the idea of having unique content on their websites because they believe a strong backlink profile will give them long term success. This isn’t even close to the truth. To leverage your backlink profile and onsite SEO, you will need unique content for 2 reasons.
Reason 1: Return Visitors
If you are using the same content as others even if it’s what your visitors are looking for. They have no problem moving onto another website and not come back to your website because the content can be found elsewhere. You’re not giving them a reason to come back to your website. However, when you give your visitors what they want with unique poker content, your visitors will keep coming back to your poker website because the content can’t be found anywhere else online.
The benefit of repeat visitors is you have another chance to convert them.
Reason 2: Better Search Engine Rankings
If you have the same content as others, two things will happen. One, your website could get penalized and disappear from the search engines. Two, even with a strong backlink profile your website will still be stuck behind those with unique content or surpass those sites in the search engines for only a few months then fall back into your rightful place. However, if you are using unique content on your poker website, your website will not only stay high in the search engines when you have a strong backlink profile but you will also gain ranking for other keywords you didn’t even think about.
The benefit of better search engine rankings is you receive a lot more visitors to your website.
Unique poker content will always outperform duplicate content for return visitors and in the long term for search engine rankings. For example, if you have two websites one with unique content and the other with duplicate content with the same quality and quantity of backlinks.
The website with unique content will always out rank the website with duplicate content in the search engines because the search engines don’t like content that is copied. The search engines are always looking for fresh new content to crawl and index.
When it comes to visitors, they want information that solves their problem or help them learn something new. The website with unique content gives the visitor what they want the visitor will return for more information. However, with the website with duplicate content the visitor comes to the website and five other websites with the same content. You have giving the visitor completely no reason to receive to your website. That visitor is lost forever because the content can be found elsewhere.
The lesson to be learned here is unique content not only help you gain new visitors to your poker website by ranking better than duplicate unique in the search engines but also keep your visitors coming back to your poker website to give you even more and more chances of converting those visitors into new depositing poker players.

On-site SEO is the base of your off site SEO campaign. Without a solid on-site SEO plan you’re off site SEO will be a waste of time if you’re trying to rank #1. The base of your on-site SEO is your website title, keywords, and description for every page then comes internal linking.
Keyword Research
Before you start adding titles, keywords, and descriptions you want to make sure you are targeting the right keywords and make sure people are searching for those keywords. Best recommended keyword tool for beginners is Google keyword tool.
How To Use Google Keyword Tool?
First you enter your keywords. (One keyword or phrase per line) Set the country, language and do your search. Once the results show up you scroll down and on your left you will need to uncheck board and click on exact. Now above that you want to uncheck all the keywords unrelated to your search. This will give you the results you are looking for.
Once you have the keywords for each page, you should add the titles, keywords, and descriptions to each of your pages. If you do not know how to do this look at the code below which you should add in your header.
<title>Your Page Title</title>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”your,keywords,go,here”>
<meta name=”description” content=”Your description go here.”>
<meta name=”author” content=”Your site name”>
The author meta tag is recommended so search engines know which site they found the content first. Just in case someone try to copy your content. You will be shocked how often it happens. A lot of affiliates don’t know or don’t care that copying someone else’s content is stealing!
Internal Linking
Internal linking is backlink building on your website for other pages on your website. It does a few things for your website. Give visitors a window to another page on your website, better chance to convert them by pointing them to the right pages, and letting search engines know what keywords your pages should rank for. With those reasons being said get the full details below.
- Ranking – Using author text for your links vs. using “click here” lets search engines know what keyword search engines should rank your page. This also allows you to direct your visitors to the right pages because they are related.
- Call to action – Using author text makes you more creative on how you apply your call to actions and come up with better converting call to actions than just saying something like “click here for 100% match up to $600 deposit bonus”
How Many Internal Links Per Page?
This is very debatable depending on who you talk with you will get a lot of different answers. The most important thing is you have a minimum of one link per page pointing to another page on your website. As far as the maximum number of links pointing to other pages per page should be based on the page.
If it’s a page that needs to give the visitor options then add all the options. However, if the page is strategy article, news article, or something along those lines then only add links that apply and do not just to focus links in the article by adding keywords that don’t fit when reading it.

Rumor has it that 500 word articles, the most commonly written and ordered article online, are out. During the last few weeks, poker affiliates have contacted content writers in search of 600 word articles, 550, 700 and 800. What hasn’t come in is an order for a 500 word article.
The reason being given by clients is that Google doesn’t want to see the same thing on every website, meaning, everybody’s using rehashed 500 word articles, and G’s looking for a change. There’s another trend in effect here as well.
Everyone seems to have read about it, but no one is sure where they read it, or what exactly it said.
Have you heard anything about Google’s new dislike for the standard article size? Do you suppose Google’s really counting words and making serp choices?
For now at least, it couldn’t hurt to beef up your articles, add in a few extra paragraphs, and really go into detail, adding content to your websites that really is queen.
