Lederer and Ferguson step down from PPA board of Directors

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

In the wake of Black Friday the poker world has undergone a number changes with everything from US access restricted, to indictments and criminal activity uncovered. Even tournament attendance, and televised poker shows have been unable to avoid the fallout of Black Friday, and the latest news has to do with the PPA, as Poker Players Alliance Board of Directors member Rich Muny announced on 2+2 that both Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer have stepped down as PPA Board of Directors members.

Both Lederer and Ferguson joined the PPA in its infancy in 2006, despite being members of Team Full Tilt Poker –officially Lederer is a consultant of some sort for PocketKings, the parent company of Full Tilt Poker; while Ferguson was part of the team that developed the Full Tilt Poker software. That said; it’s widely accepted that they are involved in the ownership/management of Full Tilt Poker as well, making them both potential targets for the US Government.

Frankly, the involvement of people even whispered as being part of the ownership of a major online poker room was a terrible decision for the PPA’s Board of Directors. Not only does this present a major conflict of interest, but it also marginalizes the PPA’s influence as it pushes forward the online poker agenda.

While a number of Team Full Tilt Poker pros registered for the WPT Championship currently underway at the Bellagio, Lederer and Ferguson were both noticeable no-shows, further hinting that the duo may be fearful of prosecution by the US government, which could unseal another indictment just as fast as the one they blindsided the poker world on April 15, 2011.

Thus far only four of the 11 people indicted on Black Friday have been apprehended, and none of the four are from the poker sites themselves.

Doyles Room overhauls online poker software

Friday, May 13th, 2011

After moving to the very small Yatahay Poker Network in early 2011, the one thing Doyles Room must have known going in was that they would need to update the Network’s software –which was considered slow and unsuitable for multi-tabling by many online poker players. Since the move from the Cake Poker Network to Yatahay, Doyles Room players have complained mightily about numerous flaws in the software, as well as a lack of features that players have grown accustomed to, and have become standard at larger online poker rooms.

With many players leaving Doyles Room, and potential players having reservations about joining the site over software concerns the site had to act. And on Wednesday night we learned that Doyles Room had put the finishing touches on a major software update that includes the following changes:

·    Resizable Tables
·    Bounty/Knockout Tournaments
·    Stable software
·    Time Bank
·    Bad Beat Jackpot
·    Time Based Tournaments
·    7 Card Stud Winnings Paid Immediately
·    32 Card Poker Full Real Time Backend
·    Fold/Show functionality
·    Improved Late registration
·    Straddle Tables
·    Bonus Cash
·    Chop Pots Auto
·    Rebuy Options
·    Short Handed Tournaments
·    Cascading Tables-Multi-tabling

In the E-Mail sent out to Doyles Room players the site called the upgrade just the beginning, a clear indication that the site will be continuing to make a major push into the US market following Full Tilt Poker’s, PokerStars, and Absolute/UB Poker’s withdrawal from the US market.

Just launch the DoylesRoom software that’s already on your desktop and our system will automatically upgrade you to the latest version.

Cake Poker woes continue with new lawsuit

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

It has been a brutal year for the once prominent Cake Poker Network, as a series of major poker rooms have left the network and their encryption was found to be sub-par and easily cracked by pokertableratings.com, not to mention the loss of Lee Jones and Serge Ravitch from their team at the tail end of 2010. Now the network that recently inked a deal with PokerListings.com has even more trouble as two men have filed a Civil Claim in Canadian court claiming they were not compensated for their early contributions to the site.

According to an article by PokerScout.com –with an attached copy of the entire Civil Claim from a British Columbia court– Ryan Bennett and Francois Piette are alleging “that they developed groundbreaking concepts such as multi-level marketing (think Refer-A-Friend) and the use of photo-real images on a poker site. These ideas were shared with the principals of Yummy Interactive, who went on to form the Cake Poker Network.”

The claim goes on to outline the corporate structure of Cake Poker as well as the reasons for this structure:

“a British Columbia corporation was going to be incorporated [which] would then be rolled into an offshore entity which would then operate and market” the project. They were told this was “necessary because you can develop online poker software in British Columbia but you cannot operate an online poker site from British Columbia.”

As Bluff Magazine joked: Are these two sure they want 20% of the struggling network?

Full Tilt Poker adds Ring Game Tickets to store

Friday, April 8th, 2011

There was a very interesting change to the Full Tilt poker software this week, as the second largest online poker room in the world added Ring Game Tickets to their store merchandise. Players can now purchase tickets that can be used to buy into cash games at Full Tilt Poker from the site’s FTP and Iron Man Stores.

Players can purchase Ring Game Tickets worth $10, $25, $50, and $100 respectively. Obviously there is a catch, but it’s not all that bad: In order to release your Cash Game ticket into your regular Full Tilt Poker account you must clear a certain number of Full Tilt Poker Points while playing on your ticket –basically the Ring Game Tickets function as a bonus that is given up front, but cannot be cashed out until it’s cleared.

Here is a look at the threshold that must be surpassed in order to clear each ticket:

·    $10 Ticket – 250 FTP’s
·    $25 Ticket – 625 FTP’s
·    $50 Ticket – 1,250 FTP’s
·    $100 Ticket – 2,500 FTP’s
·    $200 Ticket – 5,000 FTP’s

There are a number of stipulations and guidelines that have been implemented with the Ring Game tickets which you can read more about at the Full Tilt Poker website.

Overall, the Ring Game Tickets seem like a very nice addition to the Full Tilt Poker store, and should garner a very favorable reaction from Full Tilt Poker players –the only real issue I see with the details is that your ticket will expire if you fail to play on it for 7 days; which seems kind of quick to me.

Full Tilt Poker unveils latest software changes

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Fresh off their wildly successful FTOPS XIX tournament series Full Tilt Poker released a software upgrade today which includes a number of small changes to the site that players have been requesting for quite some time –as well as a couple changes that players never mentioned.

Here is a look at the changes to the Full Tilt Poker client:

·    One click seating option: Players can now sit at a table directly from the lobby instead of opening the table and selecting their seat. This option will eliminate the chance that someone hops into your seat while the table is opening.
·    Enhanced filter for Rush Poker and Multi-Entry tournaments: Players will find Rush Poker and Multi-Entry tournaments much easier to find in the tournament lobby now that Full Tilt has added filter options for both formats.
·    In-game Find a Player option: You no longer have to go through the main lobby to search out a particular player at Full Tilt Poker. Now you can simply right-click on any player to open the “Find a Player” feature.

Another announcement made today by Full Tilt Poker was in regards to their Full Tilt Poker Points policy. From now on Full Tilt Points (FTP’s) will expire if you have not logged into your account in the past two-years. So, while this won’t affect many players, if you were a former Full Tilt customer and think you may still have some FTP’s in your account you might want to log-in and use those points up in the Full Tilt Poker store.

Bodog Poker phasing out datamining and tracking software

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

In a press release issued early this morning it was announced that Bodog Poker would be phasing out all datamining and tracking sites such as pokertableratings.com, SharkScope.com, and PokerDB.com, this is being done in an effort to bring more casual poker players back to the tables.

These sites and the services they provide mainly benefit professional players who have the extra money in their poker bankroll to afford the monthly fees, as well as the inherent knowledge of these sites’ mere existence.

As Bodog spokesman Patrick Selin states in the press release: “These poker operator information portals are another example of how online poker is assisting in its own demise. I have commented previously on how the operators are doing this to themselves with hand histories, HUDs and rake back, all of which we will be cutting out. The next tier in the process is the operator information sites. Nobody who is playing poker for fun visits these sites, or, probably even knows they exist. They primarily exist to serve the needs of the professional players and therefore we will be implementing online protection against these sites to further aid the crucial leisure poker player.”

Bodog is the second poker site/network that has decided to take steps to eliminate datamining, as the Microgaming Poker Network took similar steps last year. Already known for their soft games, Bodog Poker could very well set the bar extremely high in terms of the level of competition found on the site, should even 10% of their winning players be replaced by even more fish!

Full Tilt Poker announces new software feature

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Lost in the shuffle during the unveiling of Full Tilt Poker’s latest online innovation, Multi-Entry Tournaments which allow players to register for the same tournament multiple times, as well as their Doubles Guarantee Week promotion where they are doubling the guaranteed prize-pools of the major weekly tournaments, the popular online poker room also added an interesting software feature that is sure to make multi-tablers very, very, happy.

The new feature is a “Sit Out at All Tables” and “Sit In at All Tables” option, that allows you to quickly, and with a single click of a mouse, sit-out, and then sit back in, without having to click on every single table.

The feature has the following options:

·    Sit out next hand
·    Sit out next hand (all)
·    Sit out next BB
·    Sit out next BB (all)
·    Play now
·    Play now (all)
·    Wait for BB
·    Wait for BB (all)

The feature has been long awaited in the online poker world, especially by the high-volume multi-tabling segment of the online poker community –some of whom would have to select this feature at each individual table just to go to the bathroom—who can quickly sit-out and rejoin all of the tables they have opened.

The recent upgrades at Full Tilt Poker make it clear that not only is the site constantly trying to push the envelope with new games and formats, and attracting new players with great promotions, but that they are also committed, and listening, to their current players and making the minor tweaks to their software these loyal players have have suggested.

Bodog Poker Updates Software

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Bodog Poker is one of the top online poker providers available today and like most poker rooms the site has decided to upgrade their software. The top poker rooms update their software on a regular basis so their site stays up to date with the latest technology as well as staying on top of the poker industry.

One of the major changes to the software at Bodog is the new auto-check policy. When players are disconnected or timed out during game play the Bodog software will see the auto-check policy go to work. The players hand will be checked unless they see a raise. If a raise is in place then the players hand will be folded.

Bodog has also added a hand for hand system that will be enforced ruing tournaments when they reach the money bubble stage. When a tournament gets to the number of players close to payouts then the tables will be frozen and they will play in turn until the last player before the payouts is knocked out of the competition.

Bodog has also added an interesting feature. The table animations now include flames which will appear around a winners hand if they get a flush or better during a hand. This is a cool feature which will help players enjoy their winning hand.

Overall the updates will benefit players in game play as well as tournament play. The updates make Bodog a better place to play and more in time with the larger online poker rooms.
