PokerStars unveils massive schedule for EPT London stop

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Beginning on September 29th, The PokerStars European Poker Tour is planning one of the most ambitious undertakings in EPT history, with a proposed EPT London schedule that will see 30 tournaments take place in just seven days culminating with the £5,000 Main Event.

The EPT London has been one of the most prestigious titles since the inception of the European Poker Tour, and last year a record-setting field of 848 players entered the Main Event –which was eventually won by Scotland’s David Vamplew, while the LAPT legend Jose “Nacho” Barbero managed to walk away with the EPT London high-roller crown.

The tournament will once again play double duty, as it once again will be part of the UKIPT European Poker Championships as the tour’s grand final event.

One of the most interesting tournaments on the schedule will take place on September 29th when the EPT hosts its first ever 5-Card PLO 8 or better tournament, which will be a £550 affair, and should see some wild and crazy play!

The Main Event will feature two Day 1 starting flights on September 30th and October 1st, and will last until the final table on October 6th, the last day of the tournament series. Form Day 3 onwards you can watch a live stream of the Main Event on PokerStars.tv.

Season 8 schedule for the European Poker Tour announced

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Late last week PokerStars announced the schedule for the upcoming season of the European Poker Tour on their official website. Well, the first half of the schedule anyway, as a total of seven tournaments were listed with venues and dates.

The stops announced come with little surprise as all of the seven tournament series announced have been part of the EPT prior to Season 8, including the EPT London, EPT Barcelona, and EPT San Remo.

Once again on the schedule is the only stop on the European Poker Tour outside of Europe, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure that takes place every January in the Bahamas, and has been included as part of the PT tour since its inception.

Here is a look at the first seven stops for Season 8 of the PokerStars EPT:

•    August 2 – 7, 2011: EPT Tallinn (Estonia) — €4,000 + €250 Main Event
•    August 27 – September 1, 2011: EPT Barcelona (Spain) — €5,000 + €300 Main Event
•    September 30 – Oct. 5, 2011: EPT London (England) — £5,000 + £250 Main Event
•    October 21 – 27, 2011: EPT San Remo (Italy) — €4,600 + €300 Main Event
•    December 5 – 10, 2011: EPT Prague (Czech Republic) — €5,000 + €300 Main Event
•    January 5 – 14, 2012: 2012 PCA (Bahamas) — $10,000 + $300 Main Event
•    January 31 – February 6, 2012: EPT Deauville (France) – €5,000 + €300 Main Event

Sami ‘LarsLuzak’ Kelopuro wins SCOOP Championship

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

With 380 entrants the $10,000 buy-in PokerStars SCOOP Main Event shattered its $2.5 million guaranteed prize-pool, with the final tally hitting $3.8 million, and battling for the title on Day 2 of the tournament were some of the biggest names in poker including EPT winner Toby Lewis, online pro Sami “LarsLuzak/lrslzk” Kelopuro, EPT Berlin champ Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky, online star Matt “ADZ124″ Marafioti, and Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.

In the end two of those players would wind up at the final table with one of them walking home with the SCOOP Main Event title –despite not winning the most prize-money thanks to a 5-way deal at the end of the tournament.

Sami “lrslzk” Kelopuro and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis were both amongst the final nine players in the tournament, but it was Kelopuro who would go on to win the title, with Lewis finishing in 6th place and missing out on an equity chop made between the final five players.

Here is a look at the payouts for the final table of the 2011 SCOOP Main Event at PokerStars:

1. Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro (Finland) $504,691.09*
2. Tagult (Germany) $540,125,82*
3. StigR (Norway) $390,000.00*
4. altiFC (Germany) $369,581.05*

Gomes has eyes on Triple Crown at EPT Grand Finale

Friday, May 13th, 2011

What a way it would be for Team PokerStars Brazil’s Alex Gomes to join Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe as poker’s only Triple Crown winners should he go on to win the PokerStars EPT Grand Finale in Madrid today –The Triple Crown requires a player to win an EPT, WPT, and WSOP title. Gomes captured a WPT title in 2009 at the Bellagio Cup as well as winning a WSOP bracelet in a $2,000 NLHE event at the 2008 WSOP.

Gomes finds himself near the bottom of the leader-board entering the final table, but as we saw on Day 4 of the tournament, anything can, and usually does happen! With 24 players remaining Andrew “azntrackr” Li found himself at the bottom of the chip-counts, but a few early double-ups landed the Supernova Elite player at PokerStars amongst the chip-leaders for the rest of the day.

A second Team PokerStars Pro also made the final table, Juan Macerias. The Spain native will obviously be the favorite amongst the hometown crowd, and I can only imagine what the celebration will look like should he go on to win the EPT Grand Finale!

Here is a look at the each player’s chip-count heading into the final day of play in Madrid, Spain:

1.    Ivan Freitez — 5,995,000
2.    Juan Maceiras — 3,150,000
3.    Andrey Danilyuk — 2,645,000
4.    Eugene Yanayt — 2,420,000
5.    Torsten Brinkmann — 1,875,000
6.    Alex Gomes — 1,670,000
7.    Tamas Lendvai — 1,655,000
8.    Andrew Li — 1,210,000

Local qualifier wins big at Irish Poker Open

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

When Niall Smyth placed a €10 bet on the horses, and saw it turn into €200, he probably couldn’t imagine that his €10 wager would eventually lead to €650,000 score and the title of 2011 Irish Poker Open Champion. Smyth started the final table as the chip-leader, and on his way to the €550,000 first-place prize-money –Smyth also took home an additional €100,000 for being the Sole Survivor Standing from a PaddyPower Poker promotion—he would have to battle the most experienced player at the final table in heads-up play, Surinder Sunar.

Smyth also had some competition for the €100,000 Sole Survivor bonus as Karl Rudwall and Rob Taylor were also both in search of that added prize, but Taylor and Rudwall exited in 7th and 6th place respectively, immediately boosting Smyth’s payday by six-figures.

“It started when I put €10 each way on the winner of the English Grand National, I won €200 euro and now I have €650,000. Surinder is such a great player, my support has been fantastic, and here I am!”

Here is a look at the payouts for the final table of the Irish Poker Open:

1.    Niall Smyth– €550,000
2.    Surinder Sunar – €290,000
3.    Martin Petri – €180,000
4.    Seamus Cahill – €145,000
5.    Aleksi Savela – €115,000
6.    Karl Rudwall – €85,000
7.    Rob Taylor – €63,000
8.    John Eames – €45,000
9.    Niall McCann – €30,000

Familiar names at the top of EPT Berlin leader-board

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Day 1b of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event is now in the books and a couple of recent champions find themselves near the top of the chip counts heading into Day 2: Vladimir Geshkenbein who won the EPT Snowfest last month, and Roberto Romanello who wrapped up the WPT Bratislava tournament earlier this month; both men ended Day 1 with over 150,000 in chips.

A total of 773 players registered for the EPT Berlin Main Event this time around –well off last year’s 915 entrants—creating a total prize-pool of €3,865,000, with €825,000 sitting by, waiting to be awarded to the winner of the tournament.

Last year’s EPT Berlin was marred by the brazen daylight robbery that took place on the final day of the event, but this time around the players should feel much suffer inside Berlin’s Spielbank Casino instead of a nearby Hotel Ballroom.

353 players will return to the Spielbank Berlin on Thursday for Day 2 of the tournament, but they are still quite a way from the money as only the top 120 players will cash in the tournament.

Here is a look at the chip-leaders from Day 1a and 1b heading into Day 2 of the EPT Berlin:

1.    Sander Berndsen — 242,900
2.    Oleg Elkin — 210,000
3.    Cristian Dragomir — 205,500
4.    Jochanan Robert Flink — 203,400
5.    Alek Samardzic — 200,200
6.    Mayu Roca Uribe — 190,000
7.    Max Heinzelmann — 186,400
8.    Aurelien Guiglini — 182,600
9.    Vladimir Geshkenbein — 181,500
10.    Ben Wilinofsky — 180,500

5th Anniversary of Sunday Millions shatters record

Monday, March 7th, 2011

With a $5 million guaranteed prize-pool, and a cool million dollars guaranteed to the winner, we all expected the 5th anniversary of the Sunday Millions tournament to be one for the ages, but when the final tallies came in, I don’t think anybody expected these kind of numbers!

A total 59,128 players registered for the $215 tournament –that usually boasts a guaranteed prize-pool of $1.5 million—so the total prize-pool swelled to an astounding $11,825,600! This makes the Sunday Million 5th anniversary tournament the second largest prize-pool in online tournament history –falling just shy of the 2010 WCOOP Main Event which topped off at $12,215,000.

Not only will the winner of the Sunday Millions Anniversary tournament walk away with over $1 million ($1,655,629.38 to be precise) even the runner up will receive a $1,182,560 payday. The winner of the tournament will also receive the added bonus of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

The number of entrants nearly eclipsed PokerStars record-setting tournament back in July 2009 when 65,000 players entered a $1 tournament on the site: This time around the buy-in was $215 and PokerStars nearly attracted 60,000 players, making it the second largest tournament in online poker history both in terms of the overall prize-pool as well as the number of entrants –Absolutely astounding!

The first Sunday Million tournament was held on March 5, 2006 and was won by a player using the screen-name “aaaaaaaa”.

Daniel Negreanu still chastising UB Poker

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

It’s no secret that Daniel Negreanu has about as much respect for UB Poker as he does for Annie Duke –and since Annie was a UB Poker pro she had the distinction of having two huge negatives against her in Daniel’s eyes—but the level of his ire seems to be borderline unhealthy, and this is coming from someone who is a big fan of Negreanu.

His latest flare-up began when it was announced that both Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth would be leaving UB Poker; Daniel was quick to congratulate Phil for leaving UB Poker, saying the following via Twitter: “Congrats to @phil_hellmuth for leaving UB. A good dude and he deserves better. He may be a bit wild at the table, but he is a stand up guy.”

However, this slight dig at UB Poker was not to be the last by Negreanu, who elevated the conversation when the possibility of Prahlad Friedman signing with UB Poker came to light. In a series of Tweets Negreanu called out UB Poker and questioned Prahlad’s motives basically calling him a sellout):

“So disappointed in @prahladfriedman signing with the devil who stole millions from him. He was so ‘anti-sellout’ and then he did the unthinkable”

“They must have paid him a lot to join the dark side and endorse the exact same people who ruined him. So sad and so mind-boggling”

“The current owners of AP/UB are spending Prahlad’s money. They must be mocking him at this point. Cheat the dude and watch him endorse us!”

Daniel’s Twitter account was quickly bombarded by a number fellow pros who felt he was a bit out of line.

Eiler bests Negreanu at PokerStars EPT Vienna

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Heading into the final day of play at the PokerStars EPT Vienna tournament it was Daniel Negreanu’s tournament to lose, as the poker superstar came to the final table with a huge chip-lead of over 2-to-1 against seven of his opponents. With over 5 million of the chips in play only Konstantinos Nanos was within striking distance of Negreanu with 3,635,000; next on the leader-board was Michael Eiler with a mere 2,160,000.

Negreanu was up and down in chips all day before a massive three-way all-in hand where the big money went-in on the turn; Negreanu held Top-Two against Luca Cainelli’s Pocket Aces, but it was Martin Hruby who took down the massive pot with the nut-straight. Negreanu was left with a meager 2 million in chips, while Cainelli hit the rail in 5th place.

Negreanu was the next to exit, followed by Konstantinos Nanos, which left Hruby heads-up with Michael Eiler, with Hruby holding a 2-to-1 chip lead. Eiler was able to keep chipping-up throughout the heads-up duel until he found himself with a 2-to-1 chip advantage. When the money went in it was the classic coin-flip: Hruby with Pocket 2’s and Eiler with A-T suited. When Eiler flopped a flush it took a lot of the drama out of the hand, and a blank on the river sealed Hruby’s runner-up fate.

Here is a look at the complete final table results from the PokerStars EPT Vienna tournament:

1.    Michael Eiler — €700,000
2.    Martin Hruby — €470,000
3.    Konstantinos Nanos — €265,000
4.    Daniel Negreanu — €175,000
5.    Luca Cainelli — €140,000
6.    Andreas Wiese — €105,000
7.    Matthias Lotze — €76,000
8.    Bruno Launais — €60,000

Interview With Manuel Owner Of ddonk.com

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

To start off the interview series with RBE partners. Today’s interview is with Manuel, owner of ddonk.

1. Hello, please take a moment to introduce yourself, explain how did you get started as a poker affiliate, and did you have any internet marketing experience before hand?

Hi, I’m Manuel, 24years old and I’m from Austria. I play poker since about 3 years and thats the reason why i thought about getting an affiliate. I had no clue about that business

2. why did you choose RakebackEngine to power your website?

Rakebackengine was the first engine i found, so i thought i’ll check out their offer

3. How long did it take you to start making a steady income and what was your big break?

I made a steady income from the beginning cause i knew lots of pokerplayers. I’m still waiting for the big break, but i’m sure it will come next year, i can feel it. The trend is good, only small things need to be changed and i need to work a little bit harder.

4. Did you play poker before you became an affiliate and how important it is to know about poker as an affiliate?

It’s not that important to know about poker, but it’s a little advantage. If you know the pokerscene, you know lots of people/players.

5. Do you outsource or you still hands on and what’s your target market?

I still do lots of things on my own, but i have 3 partners, so we share the work. Our target market are advanced players because we know a lot of them.

6. Do you reinvest into your business and what percentage do you reinvest?

I don’t reinvest a lot, because the team of Tim is doing a good job! Maybe i’ll invest 1% next summer in Estonia to invite them all to a great dinner ;-)

7. Do you make use of the social media tools such as Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook to promote your business, and if so, how?

Yes i do use facebook atm. For the future i’m going to promote on all the other big communities too.
We promote with our news on facebook so that all our members (and others) are informed about the latest promotions.

8. What do you think about the rakeback industry, and where do you see it going?

Of course, it’s getting not easier to become a “professional” affiliate. Competition is getting more every month, but lots of affiliates are ridiculous. So there is still a big chance to become a very big affiliate if you work hard.

9. What tips would you give for someone looking to get started in the rakeback business?

Just try it. You don’t need to invest anything, thats a very big advantage of rakebackengine!

10. Have you thought about promoting sports or casino, and if so is that a different target market to your rakeback players?

Of course, it would be an enrichment for my site, but the members i allready have wouldn’t be interested in those things. They are winning players, so they know the odds very well -> gambling is not their thing.
So yes, for these category i need to promote another target market.
